Dave Chappelle has nevertheless got the juice, and boy, America certain missed him over the past 2 years.
Chappelle has been 1 of comedy'southward most elusive figures ever since he walked away from millions of dollars and his wildly popular Comedy Central series in 2005. During 2 seasons of Chappelle'due south Bear witness, the stand-up made a name for himself as a comedic genius unafraid to cull humour from the nearly tragic aspects of racism in America (see: Clayton Bigsby, his black, blind, white-supremacist character).
The comic returned to tv set to host Sabbatum Night Live just days after America elected Donald Trump as its next president, the conclusion to ane of the well-nigh contentious election cycles in recent memory and one at present met with anti-Trump protests and reports of biased-based attacks.
Chappelle has been out of the sketch-one-act game for awhile, and in an episode that felt nostalgic and cathartic to disappointed Americans, he more often than not performed with an easygoing way with a few outlandish characters thrown in betwixt. No matter; America wanted to hear from Chappelle. The episode brought season-high ratings in preliminary overnight numbers, and early reports indicate information technology may match or surpass ratings from a controversial 2015 episode when Trump hosted.

Trump'south victory last week took nigh media by surprise, and information technology's a rubber bet that SNL's writers were no unlike.
Just concluding month, Hillary Clinton, played by Kate McKinnon, confidently said "I think I'm going to be president" with a smirk. The studio audition laughed — with her, not at her. This weekend, McKinnon re-upped her Clinton office for an entirely serious, teary-eyed cold open.
The election results may accept thrown off a lesser stand-upwardly; most comics who host SNL test out their monologue jokes for weeks. Only Chappelle came armed with Trump-winning material just days subsequently, showing his mastery of the fine art.
"Yous know, I didn't know that Donald Trump was going to win the election. I did suspect it," Chappelle began his monologue. "It seemed like Hillary was doing well in the polls and yet - I know the whites. You guys aren't as full of surprises as you used to exist."

Chappelle too lampooned Trump's showtime coming together with Obama, two days earlier.
"Oh God. Got to tell you," Chappelle-as-Trump said, "this job looks like it's going to be a lot harder than I thought."

Chappelle-every bit-Obama replied: "Really? It's not that hard. I hateful, at least you become to be white while you lot're doing information technology."
In another ballot-themed sketch, Chappelle provided his trademark dry insight on race. As a group of white liberals watched the election returns and their optimism turned to despair, one remarked: "Oh my God. I think America is racist."

"Oh my God," Chappelle'southward graphic symbol said, with imitation shock. "You know, I remember my great-bang-up grandfather told me something similar that. Simply y'all know he was similar a slave or something, I don't know."
Chappelle also offered a care for for his longtime fans, bringing back well-known Chappelle's Show characters in a prerecorded brusk spoofing a recent scene from The Walking Dead that killed off a honey character.

The popularity of those Chappelle's Testify bits accept, in the past, batty his stand-up performances. For years, Chappelle has dealt with hecklers at shows and in day-to-day life, who shout lines from his about iconic characters. On Sabbatum, the comedian didn't shy abroad from those roles, only did metaphorically end them.
Information technology wasn't all jokes from Chappelle, though. He wrapped up his monologue by recounting a recent visit to the White Business firm for a BET-sponsored party ("everybody in in that location was black – except for Bradley Cooper, for some reason").

Chappelle described seeing pictures of past presidents, how blackness Americans were non welcomed in the White Firm for so long, and how on that particular evening, he looked effectually in a room full of black people "and saw all those blackness faces" and how "happy everybody was. These people who had been historically disenfranchised."
"In that spirit, I'm wishing Donald Trump luck. And I'm going to give him a chance," Chappelle said. "And we, the historically disenfranchised, demand that he give us one, too."
The SNL broadcast also felt unapologetically black. A Tribe Called Quest made a triumphant, bloodshot return with tracks off their newly released adieu album while paying tribute to member Phife Dawg, who died before this year. Consequence and Busta Rhymes also joined.
"All you black folks, you lot must go," Tribe rapped during a peculiarly political song. "All you Mexicans, y'all must get /And all you poor folks, y'all must become /Muslims and gays / Male child, we detest your ways / So all you bad folks, you must go."
As the credits rolled at the end of the episode, Chappelle said, "I gotta tell you, making a comeback is scary as hell."
"I wouldn't even call it a comeback," he continued. "Merely whatever it is, it'due south so much better than not coming at all."
Total transcript below:
Cheers. Cheers very much. Thank yous again. You know, been a long time. It's been a long time. So please be patient.
You know, I didn't know that Donald Trump was going to win the election. I did suspect information technology. It seemed similar Hillary was doing well in the polls and yet - I know the whites. You guys aren't as full of surprises as yous used to be. And I call up I speak for all of black America when I say that we are all praying for Omarosa. I don't even know what she'southward doing in the news.
But America'due south done it. We've actually elected an Net troll as our president.
The whites were furious. I've never seen anything like it. I haven't seen whites this mad since the O.J. verdict. White people screaming on both sides, "Aahhh!"
I'm not saying I'yard enjoying it - I'm only saying I've never seen this earlier. I watched a white riot in Portland, Ore., on boob tube the other night. News said they did a million dollars' worth of damage. Every black person was watching that like, "amateurs."
And so I'm staying out of it. I'1000 simply going to have a knee like Kaepernick and let the whites figure this out amid themselves. Know what I mean? We've been here before, we've been here before.
And I don't even call back information technology's the most important matter we're dealing with. Don't forget. Don't forget all the things that are going on. Shootings. What you call up about that? All these shootings in the final year. The worst mass shootings in the history of the United states. Pulse Nightclub, which they said ISIS did, and it turned out that wasn't exactly what happened.
If that is what happened, and then ISIS is scarier than I idea, because they have very deep encompass operatives. "Look out I'm going out deep for this one, I might accept to get a Grindr account, and j- a few guys off, to throw them off the trail."
I don't think the guy was in ISIS. What happened was he pledged allegiance to ISIS earlier he did what he did, which is non the aforementioned as beingness in ISIS, you know what I mean? Similar, if I was going to have sex activity with a girl (and) right before I did, I screamed out "Wu-Tang!" - that don't mean I'g in the Wu-Tang Clan. I'm just shouting Wu-Tang out.
There's more shootings than I tin can literally count. You lot can't even go to the goddamn zoo without seeing a shooting out there. They shot a gorilla at my local zoo. And the Cincinnati Police said "Shooting that gorilla was the toughest decision this department has ever had to make." I said, "Well, y'all about to run into a lot of n-- in gorilla costumes in Cincinnati."
Why do we take to say that? Why practise we accept to say that black lives matter? Now I acknowledge that is non the best slogan, but McDonald'south already took, "You deserve a pause today."
And I gauge it's kind of tricky considering everyone else is biting information technology. Even the law is biting information technology: Blue lives matter. What, was yous born a police force? That is not a bluish life. That's a bluish suit. If you don't like it, take that blueish suit off, find a new chore, 'cause I'1000 going to tell you right at present, if I could quit being blackness today, I'd be out of the game.
I did the next best affair: I became a rich black person. Which is harder than you think, considering, you know, your life becomes gentrified. Like Brooklyn. All your black friends start moving out and all these new white friends start moving in. Yous find yourself saying things to friends you grew upwardly with that you lot never dreamed you'd say. "Sorry, y'all can't come with us, there'due south only enough room in the airship basket for four. Ta ta."
Donald Trump, he did it. He'southward our president. I feel bad saying it. I'g staying at the Trump Hotel right at present. I don't know if he's going to brand a proficient president, simply he makes a swell hotel suite, Imma tell you that. Housekeeping comes in in the morning time, cleans my room. And I just, "Hey, good morning, housekeeping." Grab a big scattering of p--, and say, y'all know, boss said it was OK.
Sad about that, Lorne.
All my black friends who have money said the same matter when Trump got elected: "That's it, bro, I'g out. I'thou leaving the land, you coming with us?" Nah, I'm good dog, I'm going to stay here and get this taxation break, meet how it works out.
That'south how it is being Dave Chappelle. The outset time I got some money, it didn't work out like that. The most unlikely thing happened always. A black president came out of nowhere, like "Come on everybody, permit's start thinking about everyone else." Ah, n--, I simply got this money! I didn't think you was possible!
Trump went to become see Obama last week, did you lot see that? Yeah. You run across Trump's face when he came out of the meeting? Trump got sonned. He looked shook. Trump looked like he got shook. Probably came in there, "How are y'all, Mr. President? Good to see you lot."
"Hello, Donald. How ya feeling?"
"Oh, God. Got to tell you, this job looks like information technology's going to exist a lot harder than I idea."
"Actually? It's non that hard, I mean at least you get to be white while you're doing it."
"I'm just saying, I'thousand a petty nervous."
"Nervous? Come on man, relax, you lot haven't fifty-fifty met the aliens yet. It'due south going to exist all right."
I don't know what he's going to exercise. Merely I know Obama did a good job. Obama did a practiced job. I call up we'll all miss him when he's gone, do you agree with this?
And give thanks God he lived to tell almost it. This is the get-go black dude that ever heard America'south secrets. I'chiliad happy he lived. If - if someone threatened our president, that is the only fourth dimension that I'd desire him to be stereotypically black.
They'd be on the news like, "An assassination endeavor was carried out today on the United States president. In a bizarre sequence of events, the president himself was armed, fired dorsum, killing four people that had cypher to practise with the incident. He then ripped off his shirt, screamed out 'Chi-town' for some reason."
You lot know, before I go, I do want to say 1 affair, and this is not a joke. But I think it'due south of import that I say this, 'cause they're marching up the street right now as nosotros speak.
A few weeks ago I went to the White House for a party. Information technology was the offset time I've been there in many years and it was very heady. And BET sponsored the party, so everyone there was blackness. And information technology was cute. I walked through the gates - you know, I'thou from Washington, and so I saw the bus end, or the corner where the jitney stop used to be, where I used to grab the passenger vehicle to schoolhouse and dream about nights like this evening.
Information technology was a actually, really beautiful night. At the end of the dark everyone went into the West Wing of the White Firm and it was a huge party. And everybody in in that location was blackness - except for Bradley Cooper, for some reason.
And on the walls were pictures of all the presidents, of the past. Now, I'one thousand not certain if this is true, but to my cognition the beginning black person that was officially invited to the White House was Frederick Douglass. They stopped him at the gates. Abraham Lincoln had to walk out himself and escort Frederick Douglass into the White Firm, and it didn't happen again, as far every bit I know, until Roosevelt was president. Roosevelt was president, he had a black guy over and got then much flack from the media that he literally said, "I volition never accept a n--r in this house again."
I thought most that, and I looked at that black room, and saw all those black faces, and Bradley, and I saw how happy everybody was. These people who had been historically disenfranchised. It made me feel hopeful and it made me feel proud to exist an American and information technology fabricated me very happy about the prospects of our country.

So, in that spirit, I'yard wishing Donald Trump luck. And I'yard going to give him a chance, and we, the historically disenfranchised, need that he give the states 1 too. Thank you very much.
